ESL teachers are not treated like real teachers because their clients are looked down upon. Unless they teach at a school like the Monterey Institute of International Studies where they have high-end students, they teach poor to middle class immigrants who pay peanuts (if anything) for their instruction.

It depends on the situation. My clients are all high income professionals and their families who pay well. I have a waiting list of the same type of clients and am very respected as an ESL teacher.

I think I may need to be here longer (I've only been here since July 07) to correctly ID my inner Mexican, but, it may have something to do with this.

At the end of the documentary, The Corporation, there's an account of Bolivians who toppled the local government to prevent the "theft" of their water (including rainwater!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) by a U.S. corporation, and I cry whenever I see it (which presents a challenge, because I've shown it to some of my English classes and I have to cough, look out the door, etc.).

In other words, people close to the earth forcefully saying NO to corporate, greed-driven madness.

Gee, I can't wait for the next agri-technology manifestacion to take part in.

Do that with caution.
Mexico's laws prohibit foriegners (even legal residents) from taking part in manifestaciones and has deported people for this on several occasions.
