Others would know the ins and outs of the DipEd more than me, as I graduated with a BEd, but a friend who did one found it quite easy. Obviously everyone's level of 'easy' is going to be different, though.

I was asking because depending on where you are in Australia at the moment, you might find that supply teaching might be a way to fund an eventual China trip easier. Here in Queensland, I've been doing supply for the last six months (I took 12 months maternity leave when our son was born last December and have now taken unpaid leave for the forseeable future) and not only do I have schools in the district wanting me Mon-Friday, but I also get $360 a day for a walk in-walk out job. No marking, no grading, no reports, no prep -- I'm going to find it hard to go back to "real" teaching when I do! Laughing

(On that note, people look at me strangely when I tell them that we're looking to go to China to teach in 2015...)

I'm in Melbourne but I think your very fortunate. $360 per day? I make about $140 for 8 hours of hard physical work; mopping floors, emptying bins and cleaning toilets.

Sadly I'm not qualified to do your job, even if I relocated to QLD, and the course you suggested to qualify me would be nigh impossible to get into. I did some research into it and because its so popular they can afford to be fussy.

Australia is just so elitist and highly competitive precisely because its such a nice, clean, secure, healthy, safe country that everyone wants to live here. They're pushing up the bar exponentially. My best chance is to go somewhere, like China, that isn't so nice where I can fulfill my potential. There's no getting around it.

It just ain't gonna happen down under.
