I'm gay and I teach in Harbin. So far, the gay scene is a bit lame but that's probably because I've only been here for about 1 month and a half and only know 1 gay guy in this entire city. Being gay is hard no matter where you are , but in China it's even harder. Maybe it was stupid to come here because I'm gay but I like teaching and I like China so if I don't find a partner, it's okay.

I may be a dumb ass, but in what way is this thread "job related", as the warning says?
Meanwhile, you gays just go for it! That leaves more gorgeous Chinese ladies for the rest of us.

How can a gay man be desperate in China with all these Quasi-Homo boys around? All these boys with their arms around each other and sitting in each others laps - you must be in Heaven!

It's like being trapped in a candy store and all the candy bins are locked.

I currently teach eighth grade in the U.S. My boys hold hands, hug each other, sit on each other's laps, etc. True, some, in fact, many students in the US are homophobic, but not all. The new generation of young people is much more metrosexual and accepting of homosexuality.

A good friend of mine came over to teach at my invitation. I lent him the money and he tried to find a gay scene here. Found one guy that he was not attracted to but in my opinion my friend was a cooock teaser, slept with the guy but no action. I found it a bit tacky .

Choose another country. Friends of mine who are gay here find life difficult, and can't tell anyone, let alone the school they are gay.
Go to Thailand!!!

Or join the US Army - they have a pretty fair treatment policy for gays...

Maybe even the Navy - hey the Village People can't be wrong...

Try the Chinatown of San Francisco. It's close enough.

My understanding is that everything is underground in China. The parties are mostly private affairs...find one gay person and they can explain where everything is at in a particular town. There are bars in some of the major cities, of course, but the rest of the country is more of a network of friends.

I've only spoken with a couple guys because the odds of finding an out Chinese guy with good English isn't that high. You'll obviously fare much better if you speak the language, but that's true of everything.

The homosexual proclivity for things anal/fecal led to a recent outbreak of typhoid fever in the Ohio/Kentucky area of the USA. This was a disease that had been virtually eradicated from the States prior to its reintroduction by male homosexuals.

Hepatitis B is ubiquitous among gays in the USA. There is a much higher rate of Hepatitis in the general population of Asia;consequently, if you are gay, your chance of picking up something that ultimately can be as lethal as AIDS is high. Of course, hepatitis and and hepatomorbidity leading to transplant also occur among promiscuous heterosexuals.

China has a greater potential for draconian measures to limit public health menaces such as promiscuous homosexuals. The gay scene here could eventually lead to confinement of those who continue to spread disease amongst their peers. Ironically, China, more or less atheist, has no moral ground upon which to condemn homosexuality. They do have every reason to view it with alarm because of its public health threat.

Hopefully, they will make sexual offenses related to those with diseases such as Hepatitis and AIDS capital offenses, thereby diminishing the number of debauchees that make their way to the Middle kingdom.

The average gay person knows a great deal about STD's. All of my acquaintences have been immunized for Hep A & B and C generally isn't passed sexually.

There's definitely an issue with condom use in China and that has a lot to do with their denial that gay people exist there. If they got out of that mode and began educating people then they could solve that very real public health issue--to their credit they have been making some strides.

You seem to believe that gay people are more promiscuous than heterosexuals but that hasn't been my experience. It seems to be *males*, in general, that are prone to promiscuity. You don't hear too much about lesbians, do you?
