Lol, this is the primary reason I put the brakes on China to reconsider Korea. What's your opinion on the air quality after making the move? I don't want to derail, so PM me if you prefer. |
Depends on where you end up. Almost nowhere is going to have the fresh, clean air of my beloved Scotland, but the city I live in now, Zhuhai, down in Guangdong, is okay. I just spent ten days in Thailand, and didn't really notice a lot of difference in the air quality there and here. There is a thread on the off topic bit about air quality, and somewhere there is a link to a site that monitors air quality in most Chinese cities daily. Just pick a clean one. |

What an absurd thread.
Those posters you mention as "vets" would be more appropriately termed "liars"
I sincerely don't know how anyone can recommend China over Korea. I found Koreans to be the most warm and generous people in the globe.
Let's just take an example of going into a store. The staff always warmly greet with an "osseoseyo" (welcome) in Korea and get you served fast. Here in China they barely acknowledge you, grunt at you and throw the change back in your pocket.
In China there are HUGE problems, absolutely huge. They mainly stem from far too many people living in these cities.
When I travel on the subway, I am a like a sardine. The subway cars are filled with so many people.
When I try to rent an apartment (yes you have to pay for that on your own here) the rents are high.
When I go to the supermarket there are lines and lines of people in front of me. And often their best stuff is sold out.
When I try to teach, the kids are treated like emperors. Heaven forbid you bore them, discipline them or fail to teach effectively.
When I go to the park I can't see the sky for the pollution.
When I walk on the sidewalk there are often people clearing their noses without the use of a tissue.
The "vets" that you talk about on the other forum are liars trying to limit competition for their well paid cushy jobs. |

You've defined that money is they only things you care about. And, fact is, you WILL NOT get anywhere near the money you would get in Korea here in China. You lack any credentials to get such a job. Why the change at age 41? Teaching tennis and old college degree but now suddenly getting a teaching type certificate and heading to Asia? What's going on there? And, why not just go to Korea? Thee long details background check and so on? There are a lot of details to respond to to clarify what you should do and where. |
