Indentured servitude? Yes, modern day slavery is alive and well in the Gulf states. Human trafficking too. The slaves are so cheap, how can you resist? Maybe we can discuss Indonesia's stance on the topic, but perhaps another time. |
Where isn't there a problem with human trafficking and sex slavery? It's certainly not unique to the gulf region. |

I think the point is that the sponsorship system, where employers feel they can take your passport and control your ability to pack up and go home if you don't like the way you are being treated, is not altogether pleasant. Saudi still thinks it is a slave-holding society, where the employer can treat you as a chattel.

look at the tone of that piece. Employer "shocked" to find an adult female pregnant. How dare she have sex with her husband before coming to work. The temerity of it. |
