You are correct, wangdaning and dean_a_jones, I just asked the FAO about the resident permit. "Purpose of Residence" is just "a job", it doesn't even specify what the job is.

I believe it was the FAO at my last position who told me that the "Issued At" specified the school, city, and province, but 90% of what he told me was blowing smoke, so I shoulda known. Or maybe I was having a senior moment.

I've always heard that the FEC booklet should belong to the teacher and not the school, but, having said that, at the first job I had in 2010, the school kept my FEC and I never had it in my possession.

At my current job, I have my FEC in my possession along with all of my Z visa and Residency Permit paperwork. Obviously, I feel more comfortable having the information in my possession. However, the only thing you can be certain of is that there will be a lack of consistency from place-to-place, school-to-school, city-to-city and province-to-province. T.I.C!

I just make sure I have a copy of my passport and my Z visa in my possession at all times when I travel. I keep my actual passport locked away and don't carry it unless I know I will need it.

Great Ape... your Z visa should have been superceded by the RP shortly after your arrival.

Yes, Ariadne ... at least that has been the case with every Z visa I have had ... the RP simply replaces the Z visa in the passport.

CHEERS!

My school keeps them. they turn them in when a teacher leaves. I think they told me there is some penalty/fine if they don't have it to turn in at the time they cancel the credentials.

I also agree that the thing is seemingly useless, as long as you have your passport with residence permit you are golden.

I keep 3 photocopies in my wallet, passport, RP, and my local police housing registration. I have been stopped by the police for documents and the photocopies satisfied them quite quickly.
