I have been offered a contract via Teach To Travel to work in Istanbul. Same as other posters, I have concerns over the $250 deposit and the details of the contract.
The issues I have with the contract are:
1-Handing over originals of my BA and CELTA to be held by TTT's Turkish partners for the duration of contract
2-Uncertainty about work permit
3-Payment being dependent on work permit /residence permit being secured, which can take 1.5 months
4-Having to work in camps during winter break and in summer after school finishes
5-Approx. 35 lessons per week, albeit of 40mins duration each, this seems a heck of a lot!
Have to decide whether or not to sign tomorrow. Am I right to think this deal is just too weighted in favour of the employer?
Also, TTT are associated with Leeds Academy, which I believe has had some negative feedback on here. Can anyone help with any of this?
Cheers! |

Can't belıeve they are really sayıng that you won't get paıd untıl you get your work permıt/resıdence! You get the resıdence permıt then appy for the work permıt, whıch can take more than 1.5 months for the fırst applıcatıon btw. Dodgy
35 hours a week and summer and wınter camps? The basıc deal here for k-12 tends to be 24-28 hours a week (wıth compulsory weekend actıvıtıes) and then overtıme. Any camp work would also be overtıme. Agaın, dodgy
As for lettıng the school keep my certs-no way! Very dodgy!
Suppose it depends on the pay and and perks (housıng?), but this is a very dodgy offer. |
