question is.......will PSB require the FEC to be valid for the duration of
the contract? you normally extend the FEC prior to applying for the
new RP. |
Yes. The period of the RP is driven by the validity of the FEC.
At least in my province. And in every other place I have worked.
The FAO will need an FEC to apply for an RP and it needs to be valid for all or almost all of the duration.
Then again, some provinces (my current included) require a new FEC every year even if you are staying with the same employer. I could see the coastal provinces using the pages in the booklet for extensions, but alot of places just issue a new booklet every year. |

I'm going through this exact situation myself right now.
My last Residence Permit expired in May and my current F.E.C. expires this July. This situation happened because I received my F.E.C. BEFORE I had to go home to America last year to get a new Z visa. Guangdong province eventually requires FTs to go back to their country of origin to get a Z visa, which is then turned into the R.P. upon return to work.
The PSB issued me a new 3 month R.P., which I received yesterday. Now my FAO will have to go to Guangzhou this month to get me a new F.E.C. All of this is, of course, contingent upon a new contract with the I.S. where I am currently teaching.
It's a hassle and inconvenient for everyone involved (not to mention the school will have to pay for two different R.P.s in the span of three months), but the situation can be resolved as long as all parties are willing (and want to) work it out.
