| My husband has a BA in Theater and a CELTA equivalent, and they issued him a visa- the real kind, not one of those temp things- in April. |

By "they," I assume you're referring to a contracting company. However, it's unclear what you mean by "the real kind" of visa. |

"They" referring to the Saudi Embassy in DC.
"The real kind" being an employment visa that is accompanied by an iqama after you arrive in KSA. |

| Thanks for clarifying. By "they" I meant his employer/sponsor is a contracting company versus a direct-hire entity. Anyway, there seems to be some inconsistency in regard to what the consulate deems as an approprite degree major. |

To be even clearer, our sponsor is a contracting company. We aren't direct hires. Don't know if that makes a difference, but I'm not going to try to delve into the psyche of the Embassy staff.  |

I was offered a position with Saud International School. They told me that they would inform the KSA embassy/D.C. that I would be a "Business teacher", since I have an MBA, and that my visa process "wasn't terrifying".
Upon arrival, of course, I would be teaching English to 11 - 16 year olds.
Seems there are ways to get around this new regulation. |

| It has long been common practice for migrants to come to KSA under one job description and to work in another job category. Half the taxi drivers in Dhahran seemed to be "Jewellers" on their Iqama ! Now the practice has come to teaching ! |

Source? Aren't you a relatively new poster who is applying for his first position in Saudi through some obscure recruiter that seems a complete newbie to hiring EFL instructors?
Did you hear it from your recruiter? They are notorious for... um... passing out incorrect information. (ie... lying...) Unless you have this fact in writing... in Arabic... from the Ministry... and the UK, US, and Canadian embassies... I suspect that it is going to continue to be a hit or miss proposition.

Oh, excuse me. VS posted a redundant "whine" in two separate threads so I felt it deserved a response on both. Pardon me for not knowing that the "rules" do no apply to all equally and please show me the bad advice I gave that has been so thoroughly refuted. |
