Good riddance to those not able to meet education requirements or not able to pass background checks.

And few know the difference between placing the period inside versus outside the quotation marks.

A-boy:

You are one of those who doesn't know the difference.

What's wrong with his placement of the period? The period is usually placed inside the quotation marks when it is a direct speech quote. In this case, "fewer" is not a direct speech quote.

In your own words, "This is fact and is not subject to debate." (Note the placement of the period).

Thanks, Bud; I was going to "break my rule" and respond to this person, but I changed my mind. I was pretty sure somebody else would.

CFTU - Hi. SAEFA? I'm one of the many, many people working for CFTU. I'm sure you've heard of us. Can you confirm that there are 7,000 less foreign teachers working in China than last year?

Confused Beijinger - Duibuqi. Nin da tuo le.

CFTU - That's great. Thanks for cooperating with our huge staff team on this research.

Why not write the supposed Chinese dialogue in the proper format (in other words, Chinese characters)? This post makes it, sadly, appear that foreigners don't know how to use the language properly.

Also, it's so sad that the original references article makes it appear that the CTFU is some valid, high-status reference to be quoted as legitimate.

The last paragraph is nauseating, in that it states that the CTFU "remains China's only private labor union." Holy god and crap, really? A valid, private labor union? Amazing that this is a real thing in China.

I mean come on.

What is your first language?

This answer is 3 years old but it probably is still a good answer today...

Do you realise that when we take part in these discussions, we're being judged and awarded prizes.

Check out this site (I promise you it's not a CFTU site)

Analysis: The sentiment of the discussion is neutral. The discussion is quite engaging but isn't controversial. The user A593186, was very engaged. It got people interested in the discussion. We think the discussion is interesting.
Awards: The following users won the first, second and third place as most active and engaging users:
First Place 1st Place: A593186
Second Place 2nd Place: Bolt
Third Place 3rd Place: Bud Powell

There's a few greasy spoon threads being appraised. WTF?

The thing that really annoys me is that I haven't won one single prize.

I presume it's being judged by computers, but why don't computers love me? That makes human women and computers.

Come on, omgili, throw me a bone.

Oh, Vikeologist, you can have my third place award. Really.

You'll just have to respond with something much more interesting than the use of a period and quotation marks.

Come on, man. You can do it! Laughing

Thanks Usain, these statistics have changed my life!

These statistics are useful information.

It is worth knowing anything that can increase your bargaining power. If schools are finding it more difficult to recruit, it's good that we know that.

I agree. And it appears more than just the foreign teachers are leaving/avoiding China as per this recent article:

Which edition are you working with? Give me a page number.

Check out OWL, Purdue University's online writing lab.

I'm also familiar with MLA, Chicago, Harvard, Cambridge, APA, and Turabian style books. They all agree with me.

I gave seminars on APA and MLA as part of my MA assistantship.

Choudoufu: Your confession is appreciated. I didn't know that you were a professional student too. It's a hard life, isn't it? Edumacation ain't pretty.
There are hoards of bright people in this forum, but I won't falsely accuse any of them of languishing in college while others were actually working and gaining marketable knowledge.

Fritz the Cat said that all that a college degree does for you is to open the door for more college (or something like that).

Ain't that right?

My immediate guess is that, as many of the foreigners in China are located in Beijing, and now that Beijing has implemented a criminal record/history check, that all these missing foreigners are no longer capable of working in China.

Those located in Beijing do not have to complete a criminal check.....could be the rapture happen and no one noticed....

I think there are many factors causing this exodus of teachers - and other foreigners as well...

A) The criminal background checks
B) The new trend towards AP education
C) The higher graduation rates of Beijing Normal University's teacher grads
D) All the scams and teacher abuses

No matter what the reasons may be, we should be taking advantage of the supply and demand opportunity created for those of us who remain in China. With less of us here we should be demanding higher wages, reimbursements of air fares, visa costs, and judging from the comments of concern I hear at my school in the admin office, I think we could all easily get an extra 2,000 yuan every month when it comes time to sign a new contract.
