| It's often said that Saudis won't do working class jobs but if push comes to shove, I think some of them will. I've noticed in the local supermarket that there are some Saudis manning the checkouts and I think there will come a time when they'll be teaching at universities (if not already?), driving taxis, or other forms of manual labour. I know that some Saudis are rich and consider themselves beneath such work but nowadays there are plenty of them who are NOT wealthy and I think it's only a matter of time before they have to do some of the work currently filled by expats. People usually try to adapt to changing circumstances rather than force change themselves and my guess is that the Saud regime will continue for the foreseeable future. |

Dear Salalah Man,
I can recall when there was a "Saudification" attempt to have Saudi taxi drivers.
It didn't work out so well because too many ladies shared this woman's feelings:
"Another said that what most annoys her is “nosy drivers”. “The most important thing for me is that the driver is a foreigner, I won’t get in a taxi driven by a Saudi as it’s embarrassing,” she said."
And some, at least, were afraid of riding with a Saudi driver.
Regards,
John |

| I have noticed more Saudis are driving taxis. Many are shysters, but a few are decent and are not trying to rip you off. The airport is where many of the Saudi drivers tend to rip you off the most. I prefer the expat taxi drivers. The day that you see a Saudi dressed in a yellow jump suit picking up trash will be the day that KSA's mind set has changed...makes me wonder if women will be driving by then? I am certain when that time rolls round I'll be long gone. |

| Perhaps we'll have another decade of oil at least . . . so few of us would be up for volunteer work here. |

| In the old days (1970s) driving jobs, including taxi driving were restricted to Saudis only. Those days WILL come back ! (I was in Jeddah and Tabuk working for the Min of Ed in 1970-1972) |

Maybe by then orange will have become the new black . . . that would be a small change. |

| It would happen today if public lands were opened up to the harvesting of the PEOPLE'S natural resources. |

Dear 2buckets,
I know that according to the Supreme Court, corporations are people, but in the context of your statement, I don't think I'd call EXXON, CONOCO/PHILLIPS or CHEVRON as real "people."

Well these corporations pay huge royalties and taxes to the gov't, so people do benefit. In addition, if you invest in them, (and there is hardly anyone who is in a pension fund or 401k that isn't invested in energy companies), one also benefits. A downstream benefit is cheaper prices at the pump, if there is more oil on the market. Lower pump prices helps the least fortunate among us, as fuel costs make up much bigger proportion of their budget.
Hey, Im a real people, and I'm part of XOM, RDS, BP ,CVX, TOT, COP, BPL, and a few more. We're just one big happy family. especially when the quarterly dividends roll in as regularly as the tide. |

| Former Aramco high-ups predict that the current estimate of 40 more years of cheap oil (cheap to refine) can be cut by 40% to provide more accurate number. Whatever the actual number, 10 more years is fine for me....I should have a couple of houses paid off by then. Inshallah. |

| Saudi Arabia is one of those countries that insists on exit visas. Are they waiving this requirment as they boot expats out of the country? KSA is a fine example of "do as I say, not as I do." |

| When you are deported as an illegal immigrant, you do not need an exit visa. Or a return ticket. |
