Just wanted to chime in as another mother.
I'm returning to the ESL life after being away for a few years to start a family... The husband is a teacher, too, but my qualifications are greater, so he'll stay at home to watch the kiddos. Not interested in relying on child-care sight unseen, so we'll take the pay-cut.
Our goals are to break even and not deplete savings for the family adventure. I've found a position in China that provides housing acceptable to our needs and a living wage. (In the past when both of us taught we easily lived on one salary and banked the other, so we're confident this time around won't be different). Four round-trip flights to our home country a couple times per year will ensure that savings are not likely.
I *could* make more money at an International School, but honestly I'm not interested in being away from my family 9 hours a day, 5 days per week. I opted to sign a contract for 12 hours actual teaching per week--giving me the rest of the time to share the adventure with the family instead of missing out.
I look forward to hearing more about your search. And if you find how to bank 30K per year whilst teaching overseas, PM me with the details! |
