definitely thanks for the warnings and possible caveats.
The commuting problem is true, I thought about it also, so I will see if I am lucky to have an acceptable public transportation connection.

I also have to say, I am not completely oblivious about University life, especially about music departments. I think after 4 years of experience in Korea and Europe I know a bit about schedules, and it was never a problem to handle 10h and spread them over 3 days or if lucky even 2 days.
I didn’t mean to come across as boastful, but its just a fact that 1 student is 20 times easier to arrange than a 20student-class.
But well, I have been warned and we will see about the extras I have to do for them, at least I am mentally prepared Smile

You have no chance at getting the 2 Unis to agree to this. One owns your time and has no reason to give it away. The 2nd school has no incentive to find you privates

Not sure where the privates come into play if one is working two jobs anyway.

However I do as the OP inquired about - the second uni cannot get FTs - the accept whatever days are leftover when the first Uni presents its schedule - the first uni is very accommodating - they always ask us what days we wish to work, then we (several teachers - not just me) sub-contract our free time to universities or colleges of lesser status who cannot attract full-timers. 220 per 40 min class is about the average.

"...the first uni is very accommodating - they always ask us what days we wish to work.."

I've been farmed out to other universities that had no teachers. I've NEVER been asked to pick my hours (not even when I wasn't farmed out). By the time my employer has been contacted by the second university, the schedules have been set at both universities (which makes sense because universities serve thousands of students, and the logistics of changing schedules for even one group of students can be a tremendous hassle).

If the two schools are working in concert (as they should be if one is working legally) the pay has always come from the primary employer.

If an FT is working one-on-one with students at another school with the knowledge of the second school, if there are schedule conflicts, he can count on working after-hours at the second school.

Let me know where you're working. It sounds like Shangri La.

Well....since he can't legally have 2 full time jobs... privates would be another option though of course that's another gray(ish) area.

Yes - Privates are an option. My confusion stems from your suggestion that his SECOND employer would not be motivated to find him part time work

I know it is uncommon, I realize that I am fortunate

I do not have complete flexibility - my request to No.1 is for all my classes in 3 days, with 2 consecutive weekdays off. I go to No.2 on those 2 days, 8+8 classes, done - for the last 4 semesters I have had exactly the same schedule- the advantages of staying in a place long term
