| Despite all the decrees, edicts, and directives in KSA, many changes happen unannounced. Maybe the OPs experience reflects one of these. |

| However, i am willing to say that, first of all, the initial job offer was posted on this website, and that all initial communications to me were done by the assistant dean and by the chair of the department, that it furthermore is government and enjoys a high opinion in these fora. I suppose it can seem odd that they would recruit at this time of year for September hires, but that's the case, and it was on the 14th of this month that they alerted me to the imminent Fedex shipment. |
It's not odd to start recruiting now for a September start date; the majority of direct hiring for universities in the Gulf is usually around early to late spring. In fact, job openings for the 2014-2015 academic year are already starting to trickle in. |

Say what you like - but Saudi unis do not have offices outside the Kingdom.
This is the place that represents Saudi educational institutions outside the Magic Kingdom
http://www.sacm.org/
If someone opens up an office and says "This is the US office of XYZ University" the chances are it is a scam.
Deal directly with the university - preferably through the official website.
If Kartoteka cares to divulge the details of the office in the USA, I will be happy to concede that he knows better than me. |

Perhaps he could send it to you by PM and then you could check it out.
My guess would be KAUST... ??

Indeed, KAUST has an office in the US

I am busily engaged in eating one of my bowler hats - without pepper.
I am puzzled that "Kartoteka" is contemplating a return to a country that he clearly disliked so much. The power of Mammon ! |

Probably tastier than crow...
Actually, it's KAUST's Global Research Partnership that has an office in the US; it's primarily a non-profit research funding program. So don't eat too much of that hat! |

| I am guessing that "Kartoteka" was at KFUPM. He may have been at PMU. It clearly made him unhappy, id we can tell from his long post on the horrors of Eastern province and teaching there. |

In the past, KAUST's "foundations program" was contracted to a US organization which naturally had its offices in the US. I have no idea what they are doing these days about English prep.

| I assume you're not physically in your home country, which is why you're being told to head to Bahrain for visa processing. |
I was not in my home country when I landed my KSA position. On the way in, I stopped in Manama for two days to get my work visa, and then had my Iqama three weeks after arrival.
I finished that gig and left for a year, then sought to come back. Each of about three companies I applied to all said that it was a KSA gov't requirement that I go to my home country to process my visa which I obviously KNOW is not true. Can anyone explain this? The best I can come up with is that yes, it is a requirement, but my first job apparently had the wasta to get my visa in Bahrain, but I'm not convinced. I'm hoping an old-timer knows the actual law and can inform me. |

No one can explain... it's Saudi. It's most likely wasta... (my brother/cousin/uncle works in the right place, etc...)
It is up to the employer and your knowledge of the law won't make any difference.

Who knows; policies can/do change. And given last year's major crackdown on illegal workers, perhaps the Saudi government is being stringent in terms of their employment visa process. |

Rules, regulations, laws ? Not in that neck of the woods. You need someone who can FIX things. On two occasions I got my entry visas from Saudi Embassies/Consulates in countries where I was NOT resident. Employers were Saudi Arabian Airlines and KFUPM.
If you have been hired by Abuabdullah's Language Academy vthe chances are that you will be made to jump through hoops. |

That's what I think.

Being it was KSU, I guess that explains it. |
