So Bud, what was your actual SAFEA experience. Did you actually go in and speak with someone and if so at what office? Were you able to communicate with someone in English or do you speak Chinese?
I can't speak for other people but I got what I needed by asking for a specific director who spoke English quite well at one SAFEA office. (that lady "Song') Until I have a bad experience, i cannot really complain about them. I can only guess you went to a different office or maybe tried to do things over the phone?
What was circumstances Bud and how did it play out? |
I told you how it played out.
My experience was just like everyone else's experience. Use the search function and find out. I found lots of references to SAFEA bummers.
Signing off on this topic too.
Have fun teaching Aviation English |
I think Gummy asked you if you actually went to the SAFEA office personally and get to speak with someone in English? From what I read in your posts, you tried to do things over the telephone. Big difference.
Anyway, if you go to this link and scroll about half way down you will find the direct links to the SAIC office in the three largest cities, Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou and the good news is that you don't have to make a personal trip to the SAFEA office to check out an agent or recruiter. Just use the online search tools at these links.

Point me towards any proof whatsoever that CFTU has actually helped anyone (and by proof I'm going to need something more than a forum post or an article on a website where anyone can post an article or a blog on blogspot).
No more anonymity. I want real names of real people I can talk to that will say CFTU has helped them with something and they have proof of that help (text messages, e-mails, pictures, anything!).
Give me the phone number of a CFTU rep in China. If they really are a representing this organization why isn't there a phone number listed somewhere so we can call and talk to these fine folks?
In fact, I'm having a dispute with my employer and am requesting the CFTU help me. Please let me know the name, address, and phone number of whoever is in charge so I can personally call them and send them a gift for being my knight in shining armor.
Anyone who is still being fooled by you clowns is truly an idiot. |

Oh! Time for one to put the money where the mouth is perhaps?
The_Kong, I second your proposal. A legit organization would gladly pony up the requested info. Let's see whether or not this desired info is forthcoming.

I'm still waiting, probably not going to hold my breath.
A legitimate organization doesn't hide the people who are running it, plain and simple.
I got another one for the CFTU sock puppets, when is your next meeting? I'd really like to attend it, and I'm sure a lot of others would as well. So why don't you post your next meeting time out here on the net for all to see?
I'm still waiting... |

Uh, well, in my city there was no SAFEA office. My City FAO suggested that I contact the SAFEA in Beijing which was about 1,000 miles away from my school. (Yes, the situation was so bad that the City FAO was on my side). She was unaware of offices elsewhere.
Oh, I was quite pleasant once I finally got someone to pick up the phone. I ended up FAXING a letter to two people at the SAFEA in Beijing.
Some folks pushing the CWTF seem to have little concept of reality. One can't just hop on a train or a plane to sit and have a face-to-face with someone across the continent. One can't always contact anyone at SAFEA who can speak English. After four days of trying, I finally contacted someone who understood enough English who could give me a fax number.
If anyone is so confident that someone at SAFEA actually speaks English fluently, he should should publish that person's name and phone number.
And, yeah, like someone else suggested, let me have the name and phone number of anyone who has been helped by the CWTF. Let's get some verifiable testimonials. |

A white list is completely unnecessary, how about you just use a little common sense? |

You are right Kong. But you have the advantage of hindsight. When you are sitting thousands of miles away in Madison, Illinois, or Sheffield, U.K. you tend to be a little more naive and trusting people who have professional looking web sites and have all the answers to your questions. Only after you get here do you find out the truth that L visas cannot be converted to Z visas without an expensive trip to Hong Kong, and that you are locked into a crappy contract for a year.
Not enough people read these posts at eslcafe and other forums before they come here because an agent buries them in reading materials that they send to the applicants. I was led down a golden path by a recruiter and boy did I have a rude awakening.
I think all of us have learned a lot more about teaching realities AFTER our arrival in China, and I wish to God that I had seen some of these posts before I came to China. |

No, I had the advantage of not being a dunce the first year I came.
I didn't come on an L visa, because there's no need to. I came on a Z-visa, just like the law says to! And guess what, I didn't have any problems!!!
Weird how that works out, eh?
I also asked to speak with some of the teachers presently at the school, and guess what???
My school wasn't bad and I've been at the same place six years now!!!
Weird how a little common sense goes a long way, eh?
In the age of the internet it's simply amazing that anyone can still fall for this kind of scheme, and your quite right that the 'Low Information' type of person definitely should have read forum posts before they came. |
