yellow paper should be given to the FT n lieu of the passport.....again if you have not received one, then go to the PSB...it is your proof of legal entry/temp residence and gives the ability to exchange money and travel...not sure if it would allow exit from the PRC but it would allow a trip to an embassy to get an emergency passport which in most cases is a one day affair..US embassy at least but I would imagine that most countries have this sorted...

But...I think this is all a hypothetical situation from the OP and essentially a big waste of time.
