No.

Best case scenario FAO doesn't know what they are doing.

Worst case, they are trying to trap you by making sure you can't apply for other jobs.

It's probably the first, but even then, do you want to work with ppl that don't know what they are doing?

What if the schools doesn't send it back? You'll need to send it to the Chinese consulate in your home country in order to secure a visa. If you are in-country, nobody needs to see more than a scan.

Recommendation: keep moving.

Erratum: The consulate may want to see the original. I sent my original degrees to the consulate with my LOI in 2004. I haven't been asked for an original since.

There is no reason to send anyone your originals. Ever.

It is possible, though unlikely, that the PSB will want to see an original before granting an RP BUT....you will already be in China under a Z visa at that point. Do not agree to send an original of anything.

yes, I agree with the advice above. Don't send the original beforehand.

I don't see why anyone would want to see your degree after the visa is issued, and I don't think it's reasonable for anyone to expect an FT to carry an original around.

What IS reasonable is for the Chinese consulate to ask for it to be authenticated by either the State Department (U.S.) and/or the Chinese consulate itself. They're in a much better position to authenticate the degree than some guy behind a desk in Ear Wax, China.

NEVER ever send an original diploma anywhere in China. Send them a certifoed copy and bring the original when you come to work.
