Dear SueH,
By Jove, you're right (I checked with the Oxford - not that I didn't trust you, of course).
My apologies - looks like I can't make bail - ah, I mean bale - seeing as I speak American.
Regards,
John |

Wannaberomegirl, I'd be interested in hearing more about your experience in Spain/Barcelona. Please PM me or post here to share with others (or perhaps we could start another thread in the Spain section?).
By the way, you had no reason to apologize to the flamer. He was rude and silly. You have the right to work under any conditions you want, and you certainly don't have to answer to them. Scab labor, indeed! There's no EFL teacher's union, and if there were, it seems likely that the vast majority of the people who surf Dave's wouldn't be in it.
Thanks. |

Too many times these forums become a way for people to vent their frustrations and it turns into a ridiculous insult. When someone asks a question--answer it, don't insult them. I wanted to hear about Italy and Spain, not alot of crap about the proper use of the words bail-bale. |

Dear Long ai gu. I am very sorry that you find Teachers of English as a Foreign Language having a dialogue with other Teachers of English as a Foreign Language about the correct spelling of fairly common English words on a website dedicated to Teachers of English as a Foreign Language offensive. There are many, many websites dedicated to Italy and Spain; a search on Google for either country will undoubtedly turn up many millions.
Long may Teachers of English as a Foreign Language continue to use eslcafe.com to help one another clarify our knowledge and understanding of the English language; the usage and/or teaching of which constitutes for many of us our bread and butter, our profession and much enjoyment as well as our professional pride.
OP: I think people were only attacking you for your willingness to work without health benefits or holiday pay, and thus undercut other (legally working) teachers. You may have to put up with bad conditions working without a visa but you should still try for decent conditions, otherwise you are both encouraging employers to lower wages and worsen conditions and advertising your willingness to aid them in this process.
ps. There are many Unions and trade organisations for EFL teachers. Many members of Dave's are members of both international trade organisations and local (national) teaching or general Unions.
Johnslat: How are you my good man?

Dear stillnosheep,
Thanks for replying and attempting to explain the facts of life to Long Ai Gu. Must admit I rather enjoyed the banter with Johnslat - and like you wonder where he's gone.
As for long ai gu - thank you so much for your wonderful example of an open ended question, and I hope others are able to respond by writing you a book to save you the bother of your own initial research.
Try TEFL.com and see what sort of jobs are published there - that might be a good place to start. |
