Yes.
If you are as silly as me and go on desert excursions alone, you might consider packing a few extra items that could serve to help you in a time of crisis.
Country-bumpkins exist here just as they exist in W VA...difference being that citizens of the KSA are able to easily (and legally as far as I know) procure firearms. "The help," (that's us) on the other hand may not. |

would you be implying that you have access to a 3-D printer in Saudi and have "made" your own gun?
I certainly can't see any other purpose in posting it.

In the Magic Kingdom going to the desert alone it's a very risky business and dangerous in some isolated places like the Empty Quarter (The Rubʿ al Khali). There were cases where people died in the desert because of lack of water or the car was in trouble, and there were no coverage of the mobile network. Always it is recommended to go to the desert with at least two 4x4 cars, plenty of water, and you have to report to the police before you go to your desert trip.

I'd rather not go into those details John. I apologize. Suffice it to say, I take every precaution in selecting an area to hike/camp, make others aware, don't recommend others to go alone, but if someone insisted - I'd recommend carrying whatever is at your disposal and in your comfort zone to defend yourself. We all know that the word "weapon" carries with it a large number of possibilities. (I'd do the same in Alaska by the way, since I don't really like guns in the first place)

Absolutely true. I've heard of this one being played out from a reliable source.

You are lucky that your taxi driver is an Egyptian not a Saudi!
You know why? Because the Saudi driver instead of concentrating in his driving, he will spent his time watching in the inside mirror looking at your face, especially if the eyes are blue or green! |
My Egyptian driver had a private car; however, I often took taxis for short grocery runs. I never experienced problems with Saudi drivers and actually found them to be the most reasonable in terms of negotiating fares. Ironically, Dubai is where I've experienced taxi drivers' feeble attempts at flirtation. But I'm too street smart to let that nonsense go on. |

Has anyone here been in an altercation with a Saudi? Also, is the fact they are protected by law embolden them to do or say things they typically wouldn't do or say to other Saudis? |

Well, when in Rome do as the Romans do.
In the magic Kingdom you have to follow their tribe rules.
How? Well the society of the Magic Kingdom is based on the Pyramid principles, each member of the family or tribe cannot cross the member above him (either older member or a member with a high position in the society). So, if you are crossed by a Saudi you have to use your common sense (if you have one! ), try to address the issue to the member above him in age or position. If not, then by law you can lodge a complaint to the police, and better to have two witnesses with you. |
