Man would that be traumatizing for me....but I'm saying this from an American perspective where we're expected to bathe alone once we're old enough not to drown ourselves.
That aside, if I were married to a Japanese guy and we had kids, I wouldn't do the bathing either. It'd be too weird. When they're old enough to bathe themselves, cool. |

Since I have always taken care of the bills/money management, I don't think this has anything to do with it in my case. To be honest, I suspect it may have more to do with giving my wife a few child-free minutes in the evening, but it's hard to be certain.
Sometimes the reasons for things aren't clear and just when I think I figure it out, I find out I was completely wrong. Still trying to figure out the whole keeping kids' stomachs covered to prevent illness. I mean, my wife understands how germs and viruses work, but she is adamant that we cover their stomachs at all times, particularly while asleep and even during summer. I don't understand it, but some things just aren't worth fighting. I seem to go along with a lot more the older I get. Tired and worn out, I suppose, but then it also seems like much of the smaller stuff just doesn't seem to bother me as much as it once did.
I'd sure like to understand, though. Even so, I have stopped asking, as nothing seems to upset her quite like me asking for an explanation about something for which she has nothing better to offer than "because this is Japan" or "because I am Japanese." |
