12000 is so little for 48 hrs of work.
....
Salaries are the same. |
Not quite. Salaries for direct hires at government universities like KAU are calculated based on the individual's education level, years of relevant experience, nationality, and written verification of previous employment. Therefore, no two salaries may be alike. |
Goodness about verification. You are right. I couldn't verify 3 yrs of my experience the crummy place I worked for didn't re prepare it. My offer was made based on 5 yrs of experience. |

I want to clear up something I just noticed.
When I said salaries are the same I meant that working hours at KAU get 12 000 like the offer of the owner of this thread.
So in another words:
18 hrs of teaching + 5 hrs of office hrs= to 12 000sr which is the same amount he got but he would have to work for 48 hrs.
The only similarity is the amount of salary. Nothing else.
Nomadsoul you are right about salaries vary from one individual to another based on all the factors you listed. |

| But because you have to pay for furnishings and add a considerable amount to the housing allowance you're not really benefitting from the better package. |

I got 8000 for furniture which covered everything.
As for rent, I pay 3000 extra. Now we are sharing the rent with my friend so it's not that bad.
I have read and heard so many things. I decided that I wanted to work less hours for a reasonable salary. For now it's ok. We can't get everything. If I took those high paying jobs the amount of work would be 10x more. I see my friend. It's not what I want. Too lazy. |

So you have 18 hours teaching plus 5 office hours teaching. Do you still have to spend the full 40 hours a week on campus with the clock in and clock out system?
When do you do your lesson planning? |

We don't do lesson plans even. No one checks.
No no. 3 days a week I leave at 10:50. I just have to teach and stay in for an hr for office hours. The other two days work starts at 11 but I come earlier to complete office hours.
I don't have to do 48 hrs. |

Sounds like a dream job work load wise.
Are they still recruiting?
Problem is i have a non related BA degree plus Celta and 3 years experience.
When i contacted KAU they need you to have either a related degree or an MA.
Is there a contractor who hires for them without needing the related degree? |

Yes ofcourse. Preferably TESOL butine isn't. Mine is in English language and literature.
Speaking about dream job...well it's not the perfect that you would think it would be but at least it's not 48 hrs and your not stuck from dawn till dusk. Lol. The HR stinks, transportation stinks, finding an accommodation really stinks, but then again you can't find a job that's %100. You just have to choose what you want among all these difficulties and then again you don't choose it's what you found.
I was jobless for two yes before I got in here I didn't even know what it was like and thank God, I've been blessed.
For accommodation once your in I'll give you a number. He will allow you to pay part of the accommodation and allow you to rent it. Women are not allowed to rent by any means. Don't worry he doesn't want anything in return. THANK GOD. I moved in at midnight in tears and slept on the floor a night I'll never forget. Don't worry nothing bad bad happened just the struggles upon arrival. I can bore you with that. Just love the attention I get. Lol.
There are so many details. Once your in contact me I'll help you with them so you don't lose much.
Hope it will be smoother for you. I'll pm you my email address. Sometimes I don't log in here for awhile.
Edit: summer vacation:
Exactly: June 4-august 24.
Another edit: for newbies they keep you another 2 wks. Nobody bothered to explain why.

KAU's English language program was accredited in 2013 by the CEA, which has standards regarding EFL teacher qualifications. Direct hires are required to hold a relevant BA or MA---preference is for MAs.
Be aware that employment with a contracting company does not guarantee you'll end up working at your desired location. In other words, your eye may be set on a particular university in X city but the company assigns you to another institution in some other part of KSA where there's more of a need for teachers. You will have no say in the matter; companies have been known to transfer teachers without much notice. So when looking at job ads, pay attention to the institutions/locations (client projects) indicated. |

Is this some sort of new law for 2014/2015? I have several single female friends who have taught at the ELI for several years, and they had no problems renting flats for themselves. And without any drama. |

I do not know. I was not able to rent an apartment in naseem nor Suleymaniah. I was crying at the lobby and a lady saw me. After listening to me she handed me a number and told me to make a call after 5. That's how I got the first apartment. Then I moved in to a girls dorm for awhile. For the current house my friend managed to arrange an apartment because her hr helped.
I'm not making stuff up. I spoke to one friend at KAU. She was in khobar I think. She told me her bf arranged everything. Many teachers are staying at hostels.
The rest are married. |
