The dress code at KSU is shirt, tie and nice pants? I was told to wear nice dress shoes and not scandals. Any KSU folks out there?
I am leaving out tomorrow and may need to adjust my luggage. I did find the apartment I am going to stay and the Motel Six is a step up from it.  |

In all of my years of teaching university in the Gulf (Kuwait, Oman, UAE), no female teacher ever wore athletic footwear unless they were jogging, playing tennis, etc. In the classroom, teachers dressed professionally... regular semi-dressy or dressy shoes or sandals. There was one teacher who wore Birkenstocks and both students and other teachers looked askance at her and she was considered rather tacky. LOL
While women can get away with sandals, I have read here that many employers don't allow them for men in Saudi Arabia. I would have found that odd somewhere like Oman where 100% of the male students are wearing them.

Wear professional clothing and shoes (for men dress shirt, dress pants, dress shoes, dress socks, tie) unless you want people talking behind your back or looking at you odd. Bad clothing also gives students something to complain about if they want to get rid of you. You always want to make it as difficult as possible for the students to complain, and in Saudi Arabia they are superficial and will look at shoes and dress first over absolutely everything else. The same is true for the entire region. |

The world over it's the same: a person is judged by his/her attire, hence to create a 'good' impression, one is told to wear a suit for an interview and in daily office/university/ etc.... business attire always except on Fridays (in the West) where it's 'dress down day'.
So no difference! |
