| I never seem to find myself attracted to native English speakers these days so unfortunately the odds are low for me getting together with another TEFL teacher and travelling the world together. |

Perhaps you should get his and hers avatars. You would make a striking electronic couple. |

Congrats!
Ok, I see the subtle difference between the threads now...
I do agree that sometimes, teachers understand teachers better, what with the crap of dealing with hundreds of different personalities each day and trying to get it all sorted in your head. The crap that can go on with admin, planning, parents, language barriers...sometimes, other professions or perhaps more blue-collar jobs don't get why we get stressed or cranky. I know the last guy I seriously dated never understood why when I came home at the end of the day, I didn't want to talk to anyone for at least an hour.
Working at Nova, I saw lots of couplngs and I tell you, when they ended, it was more often than not, BAD....bad bad bad bad bad....
If you are both in the 'field' but in different schools or different age groups (Primary/secondary/ESL) I think it would be ok.
And since we have Capergirl and Shaman as on-site proof, we can watch their relationship unfold and see if it all works out! |

Someone once had a saying, "never sh*t in your own bed". Sorry that's a little crude. It means don't mess around with workmates.
However, assuming that all relationships will end in disaster so why bother getting into them is a little pessimistic non?
It is a unique bonus to be able to talk shop with someone who understands, and yet it's just as refreshing to be able to see someone entirely unrelated to work. In the end they can both work, I hear. |

Congrats you two. Shaman you dog, or should I say kitty.
IMO a relationship can work between two teachers just as easily as any other 2 people.
Good night to the old lady whispering hush. |

Capergirl & Shaman-- congratulations!!!
I dated a co-worker at my school in Prague, and when it ended, things got awkward. I felt very uncomfortable going out with our mutual friends, and I grew to feel uncomfortable even being in the staff room with him.
I do think I'd like to meet a nice EFL/ESL boy, though, if for no other reason than I'm not sure if/when I'll settle down in the States, and it'd be hard to have a stable, serious relationship with someone if I were constantly moving to different countries. It'd be so much easier to just bring the boy along with me.

Good reason why to avoid dating people you work with. If things get ugly, your personal problems can arise at work. |

I married a co-worker - but we were dating prior to being posted to the same school, back in the homeland. A couple of the other teachers dated for varying lengths of time, it didn't cause a major problem on staff when it ended. The only real problem occurred when the married deputy-principal started hitting on one of the single women.
Back home there were always other people to move on to/go out with - here it could be more difficult and therefore maybe lead to more resentment. |

I am in the situation where my wife and I are co-workers... We were married before we came to China so here we are teaching at the same school.
I have to admit that it can be hard to see each other 20 hours each day but we have learned to manage it. We are lucky enough to teach in different departments and whenever one of us needs some air, they just go to tthe office and chill there. |
