Tell us about Brew Dog, if you don't mind. I'm interested but don't really like going into Rappongi. I'd prolly make a trip down there if there is something they do uniquely well there, though.

Still, too bad they had to set up in Rappongi.

Did you try the pizza?

It's not a bad place and worth a visit. They have a good line-up of beers and the prices, while high, are not too bad---especially considering the location. The atmosphere is pretty good, the music OK, and the food quite good---though the burger I had was a little underseasoned. I know this isn't the most detailed review, but I'd give it a shot, especially if you like the BrewDog beers.

I'd say the best beer bar in the city, factoring in beer line-up, food, atmosphere, and music is probably Craftheads in Shibuya. Went there the other night and the tap list was really impressive, with beers you don't see anywhere else, and the food I had (clam, pork belly and sesame oil pizza) was unique and excellent. Also, they have an amazing bourbon selection. But....

The prices! Bordering on the extortionate---possibly the most expensive beer bar in the city---maybe excepting some of the old school Belgian places in Akasaka or Ginza.

Still, if you have the cash, highly recommended.

Story about the Koenji one (i think the one listed). When I first started working here I had no clue about craft beer and was working close to Koenji on a Saturday. So met my gf there and we decided to go for a beer.

Found a good looking beer bar and sat down. Could barely disguise our disgust at the prices and went out - gf made a comment that it was too expensive. The bartender looked at us like we were pigs and I thought he was a wanker. And we went directly to the hub.

Only realised a few months later why.

Kinda leads to my next point though. Do you any of you have recommendations for craft bars for couples in which the lady has next to no interest in beer? Or good ones for solo drinking ie - friendly, inclusive atmosphere, good music (like the thrash zone one maybe)?

I went the Brew Dog one in Roppongi which was quite a nice way to spend an afternoon

I don't think you're thinking of the same place. It's not the sort of place you'd stumble upon---it's hidden in a residential neighborhood, the prices are very cheap, and there's no Hub in Koenji.

Anyway, if you're used to drinking microbrew in the states, the prices here are pretty shocking.

Youre quite right - I was thinking Kichijoji and got mixed up!

The other guy covered it pretty much. It is actually rather close to a subway exit so you dont have to trawl roppongi much.

Actually with BrewDog, I can say now you can get their more famous beers rather easily in liquor stores, so if you are just into the beer then you can save money drinking it at home, in the park or on the street

Nice tip about the beers, thanks.

Yeah, I may have seen Brew Dog bottles somewhere but I'm not sure where. I'm more interested in an overall experience, though, not just food or just micro-beer.

Devil Craft, for example, is pretty good since their pizza is unique and they do it well and they also bring in some good US micro-brews.

Fair enough, you might enjoy BrewDog. There is also that TwoDogs right near it which I heard is nice.

The BrewDog beers you can get at the Bic Camera sakeya in Ikebukuro, Yurakucho and possibly elsewhere. Ive also seen em around at the store under Gu/Uniqlo in Okachimachi, and I think in that new sakeya in Akihabara station. Possibly in Ueno too. Think they are becoming rather popular.

jmatt,

Thanks, but I screwed up. I'm probably thinking of Two-Dogs Brewing company restaurant, not Bew-Dog.

I think it's Two Dogs that I'd like to know about. I've thought about going down to try their pizza and grab a beer there.

I've only been there once and I didn't like it at all. Just a crap vibe, they were out of a number of beers, the ones they had weren't anything special. The music was pretty lame and the place stunk---as in there was a foul odor in the place. This may be because, although I may be mistaken (only had the displeasure of going there once), this used to be a Gas Panic. I imagine it would take generations to get the stink of that cesspool out of the bones of that building.

But, you may have a different experience there. Again though, BrewDog is definitely worth checking out.

If it's pizza and beer you're after, I'd recommend Baird in Nakameguro.
