i'm sure you realise that if the movie braveheart never came out, no americans would give half a crap about scotland. then they wouldn't pump your economy up with tourist dollars. i've worked at two hotels in scotland, i know how important americans are to the local economies!
scots are fun in a pub, though, they don't get violent like the english. |

I always felt sorry for the students who had to learn pronunciation from a Scot. |

OK, here's a Scottish joke I kept hearing 30 years ago...pardon me if you've heard it 30,000 times:
Why did the Scotsman run behind the taxi?

Clown person, it might interest you to know that most Scots who are teachers are able to switch from dialect to Standard Educated Scots, thus are probably extremely good teachers of pronunciation. Heaven forbid I should criticise American teachers for their particular pronunciational (?!)habits...
And heres a good American joke...
Americans elected Ronald Reagan for president... twice!
Later, George W. Bush was sent to the White House... twice! |

No, that's because all the violent ones are in London or Brighton doing smack/smoking crack and begging.
P.S. Please don't believe everything Mel Gibson says the man's one step up the evolutionary ladder from Dubya. |

How hard is it to bash Americans these days anyway?? I mean, how creative do you have to be?
Here's a good Columbus joke:
In 1492, Chris Columbus sailed the ocean blue.
Get it?
Normally a *joke* would consist of an introduction, a buildup, and a punchline...simply stating facts just doesn't do it.
And since I doubt you're American, this isn't really an "American" joke, is it?
You could say it's a joke about Americans, but then you would actually have to tell a joke...but I digress.
However, you have your history right, so well done. |

Chris Columbus directed the first two films concerning Harry Potter. He was not alive in 1492!
The man, whom we refer to in the English-speaking world as "Christopher Columbus", was NOT American. Indeed, the nationality, "American", would not exist for several hundred years after his historic voyages. He was from Genoa, which, I believe, was a separate city state at that time (much like the Vatican is now), so his nationality was "Genoese".
So the joke's on you. Go check out your facts properly! (Have a nice day!) |

My name's Joshua.
I go by Josh.
Hmm...Christopher...Chris...
Sorry I give readers more credit than they deserve. I didn't think anyone would confuse the director with the Columbus in question.
As for the other stuff in your post...
What??!
...context is a crucial thing |

Every year the Scottish Tourist Board releases a list of the strangest questions asked by foreign tourists. One that sticks in my mind is, "Do you guys have the same moon as us?" Needless to say, the enquirer hailed from the Land of the Free. |

My wife while working in a big hotel in Canada was asked by American tourists: Does your flag come in any other colour? |
