Yeah it's all getting ridiculous. Everything and everybody everywhere are being tracked, and especially their money. All governments are fighting over their ability to [steal] tax your money. So they need to know where you are and where your money is, at all times.

Did you know that passports and visas didn't exist before 1919? They were an unwelcome result of WWI. We think we are so free now because we can book a ticket to Tanzania any day of the week and fly away. -But we won't even be allowed on the plane without all the proper RFID documents and a thorough search.

Back in the day, you could just go places and be there. One of Rachmaninoff's works (forgot which one) was actually debuted in the US with an American orchestra led by Mahler. People moved around and mingled at will. WWI ended all that.

Interestingly enough that also all coincided with the invention of the US income tax. Funny that.

But back to apostilling - here is an informative explanation of the International Apostille Treaty:

I( think 1914 was the magic date. Before that the only country that required passports and documentation was Imperial Russia.
