I don't think it was that Scot as I have a friend (ex-colleague) who has been with BAe for years with his Eastern European wife and nipper.
I either applied too late for that position or am married and my 2 pals aren't, so they won't have to deal with getting the wife over thing, which is a problem in Dahran according to a pal or someone there knows me and doesn't like me, which is very possible as I can think of one guy who is there and we once had words. Maybe it was just bad luck. I also applied about 10 years ago when I had much less ME experience and maybe they don't consider previous applicants.
Whatever the ins and outs of that application, the money is great, the compound is lovely but the students and work load are horrendous. I may have dodged a bullet, especially if the 2 oil companies who have written to me recently make an offer.
The irony is that my dad was a fighter pilot, my brother-in-law a Royal Marine, my brother was in a cavalry regiment and my nephew works for BAe as an engineer and so on. Those kind of people, Scot, are the kind of people I grew up with . |
