When even a drugged out troll is right - he is right. OP listen to this man and everyone else who told you so: follow the rules. Bad enough to break the law in you own country. It's just completely stupid to break laws in a foreign country. |

OP,
You sound like one of those special cases. Laws don't apply to you, and even if they did, you could always game the system to your advantage. China needs more people like you. You show initiative, and you have leadership qualities which are in short supply.
If you get caught, you say you can always change your name and get a new passport. Brilliant! Who would have thought of that. It's a simple process.
May I suggest a new name for you? How about Louie DeTroll? |
Lol are you still upset over that thread where i said no one should be working their ass off for a uni job?
Laws don't apply when the punishment is lighter than the costs of following the regulations, no.
And if I had a Chinese gf, or had other ties to China...I wouldn't hesitate before getting a new passport if getting back in was that important.
Some of you act like not spending thousands to get the proper visa is akin to trying to smuggle 20 kilos of heroin across the border or something. Like it's the worse thing anyone can do.
Tell me - if flights back home and then another flight to China will cost 9000rmb, 2 weeks in the UK will cost me another 10000rmb, plus there's the 10000rmb opportunity cost of not working for a month...why exactly should I care about the Z visa when the fine is 'only' 20k max and chances are you won't be caught anyway? And those are all pretty conservative figures.
Just do the maths. |
There's some sort of psychopathology involved here. |

Funny how no one can refute the maths but continue as though they're right anyway.
Anyone actually have an answer to the question in the OP? |

SOP of this board requires a snide response... |

Lol.
Ever download any music or movies online?
Ever do a private you didn't pay taxes for?
Ever do any cash in hand job in your life?
Ever have an alcoholic drink before you were 18 (or 21 in some countries)?
Ever have sex when you were underage?
Ever hired a scooter for the week abroad when you didn't have your international driving licence and in some cases foreign country driving licence?
When someone gives you too much change do you always correct them? Every time?
Ever come back to your uni accomodation after 11pm, in violation of the curfew (and thus the contract)?
----
I take it no one actually knows the answer to my question then? And would instead prefer to continue to tell me how I should pay around 20000rmb to get a visa when the maximum fine for not having a visa is only 20000rmb anyway? |

If you have no ties in China, why don't you just go to another country which doesn't require you to go home to get the visa?
Comparing downloading a movie to intentionally living and working on the wrong visa is laughable. Most people choose to operate within the law, which makes me think you're not going home because you can't afford to go home.
Eventually, you'll get caught and you won't sound so arrogant then. |

Oh, I see now. You either a complete and utter fool or a complete and utter troll, or completely and utterly both. I think we should stop feeding you. |

Because I'm bored of Thailand and don't fancy going to Korea or Japan yet, basically. Have some friends in China who I can stay with too which will make the whole thing a lot more fun.
If they catch you and fine you, what's the difference between that, and paying all the money to go home and back?
Except that the first scenario is not a 100% slam dunk chance (not even close...), but the second scenario costs you money 100% of the time.
Not quite sure why some people can't grasp this simple point. But jeez, at least I know never to bring up the subject of visas on this board again. Seems like it's viewed the same way as making a thread asking 'so, how do I smuggle drugs into China from Hong Kong?' or something.
Please lock the thread. |

I do see your point, ESL, but you are essentially asking advice on how to break the law. It's 6 of 1...
There are (tens of?) thousands of 'teachers' here illegally, and they do okay for themselves. Every time one is caught, though, it just makes it harder on the rest of us, who've jumped through hoops and did it the right way.
Do what you have to do. Best of luck to you. |

I can see your point, OP. I was just trying to warn you. It seems that you are willing to take the risk. I don't recommend it, but I do agree that working without a work visa is certainly no heinous crime. I guess this is akin to driving a car (provided that you know how to drive well) without a licence. It is a shame that people have to go home, or be at home to get a Z visa. I mean, what's the difference? This "what's the difference" mentality is how the OP feels about the visa issue. The board here at Dave's can be quite wowser like, you're probably better off to ask a question of this nature on a different China forum.
My thinking, for my own personal situation, can be adequately summed up by this particular gentleman:

Don't the casino operators in Los Vegas say:
'We welcome all gamblers, but we will send a car to collect ones who think they have a system'. |
I would be very surprised if they did, because it is a monumentally stupid thing to say, and casino people tend to be at least a little savvy |

Isn't the savvyness of casino owners what I'm pointing out? |

I don't think anyone cares to determine probability of being caught committing a crime when there are ways in which one can accomplish the same goal (obtaining a Z visa) legally, a process that doesn't involve computing probability by employing a flawed method. |
