It can just be incompetence.
Or cash flow, or douchebaggery. Or maybe due to holidays
I give them a couple of days to sort it out. It's never gone beyond this. |
Well if it's a cash flow issue, it doesn't say much for the health of the company that they are literally surviving on day to day cash, and have no reserves to cover unexpected expenses. That means the company is only 1 bad month away from financial disaster. In such a scenario the FT should stop working until he is paid.
Holidays are known well in advance so I don't really accept that as an excuse. It's only cash issues or douchebaggery that cause late payment - both are grounds to stop working after a couple of days of it. |

| At my first job there was nothing about summer/winter pay in the contract. The recruiter told me it was covered under "holiday pay" but I insisted they add in a clause about the vacations. They added them in to the appendix. Honestly don't think it made any sort of difference but I was a bit paranoid about my first job in China so insisted on it. |
That's not paranoia at all. I call that being smart.
If I didn't like the terms of employment in my home country, or if the terms were vague, and the employer wouldn't clarify the terms, I wouldn't take the job. Same holds true for a job in China.
Especially in China. Things can (and often do) go south quickly with little or no warning. Though it has been said that contracts in China are worthless, having the clarification written into the contract gives you something to throw in your employer's face when things don't pan out. |
