Hello current affairs...

My BA was in Media Culture and Communications.

They didn't need my MA or PGCE to secure the visa.

Then again Saudis change their requirements like they change their underwear.

My paperwork went in last Tuesday for the attestation. Heard back Wed that is was done. My passport was put into the embassy yesterday for my visa and was ready same day.
Just waiting for my passport to arrive home and I'll be flying out tomorrow.

So, when they say 4-6 weeks, it could be a lot sooner. It's not panic and action stations for me.

Thanks for the info, halebob.

My medical is taking ages.. Saw GP today but the X-ray has to be booked in at the hospital and that might be a week away. Then there is the medical form to be notarised and legalised... But, nice to know that once the paperwork is sent in things will move forward!

Forgot to say that I'm in the UK with Britannia. I had my 'medical' and xray same day I went to Britannia. When I say medical, I mean peeing in a cup, having my blood pressure taken, bloods taken and answering a few basic questions. Done.

hen there is the medical form to be notarised and legalised.

Oh god....this now? I was under the impression was you have to get 2 copies made of the med report, have the doctor sign each copy with license number and clinic address, and that was it.

I've read that sometimes you have to get some verification from the state doctor's board (or whatever it is) but that's more the exception than the rule.

There could be a difference between how it is done in UK and in US. Come to think of it, there might be a difference between Tuesday and Wednesday.

Yes, talking about the UK. From the SACB in London:

Applicants should provide a Medical Report (form supplied by the Consulate) duly completed by a competent medical authority and authenticated by the Legalisation Office, Foreign & Commonwealth Office, PO Box 6255, Milton Keynes MK10 1XX.

Maybe you were lucky.. On the medical form it asks for a chest X-ray. When I had a medical two years ago I didn't have an X-ray, though.

It's on the form, but I don't think you have to do that. They have to have the Doctor's signature, stamp and license number and of course the proper number of copies.

I'm guessing rather than me having to get it completed, the company Britannia uses does it for you. It was only a one sided form, then they sent me for an xray on Harley street. Guess that's why they charge £500.

Do you even have to send the x-rays? I don't think so. As long as the doctor checks negative on the form, that's all that is needed. There needs to be a list of fly by night doctors that have licenses that will do the physical for a minimal charge. Of course you still have the lab tests to do.

So... It looks like to get my medical form notarised the doctor might have to go in-person with the form. I need to check this. Maybe it depends how strict the notary is? When I called they said that if my signature is not on the form then the doctor would have to turn up!

A notary will only notarize the signature of a person signing directly in front of him/her. I have never heard of a doctor having to show up somewhere to have his/her signature notarized for some Middle East ridiculousness.

I doubt that you could afford the cost to get some doctor to do this... even if they would ever consider it.
