I am not a big fan of Nova, but I know many of my fellow teachers had plenty of time to take Japanese lessons plus do some socializing. You will find many schools that teach Japanese and even more private teachers available. Many of my Nova co-teachers used a nice older lady in Chigasaki. She only charged 1,600 Yen per hour and she is a good teacher.

Still in most places in Japan you can get away without learning any Japanese. I think maybe about two-thirds of the teachers who go to Japan through the big Eikaiwas never learn any Japanese. They just hang out together drinking or traveling. I picked up a littke Japanese because I hung out in places where mostly Japnese go.. Unfortunatley, intead of learning more Japanese, I became a means for them to practice their English.. Laughing I am hoping to get back and this time I will take lessons.
