I've thought about doing the PGCE, so I have a wider range of international schools and universities to apply to later on. I was put off for several reasons;

1) I'd be expected to lie about my future intentions
2) I'd probably not be liked by the course tutors if I was vocally positive - speaking with my fellow trainees - about my experiences abroad
3) The PGCE is supposed to take over your life for a year and is very, very hard work; it may have been suitable for me 10-20 years ago
4) I will be expected to relearn and apply many theories and techniques that I've already applied and changed, because they don't work in the EFL class environment unless heavily tweaked or scrapped
5) I regular read (mostly in the Guardian) about NQTs who quit because of pressures from their misbehaving students, the parents, their colleagues and the Department of Education.

I eventually decided that, barring a wholesale change of the UK's approach to trainee teachers (unlikely), I'll instead look to doing either an MATESOL or MA in Applied Linguistics at a Russell Group University. I might not have as wide a choice after I graduate, but points 1, 2, 3, 5 and (possibly) 4 will not be an issue, plus many of my peers and tutors could even be in the same position as I am.
