Whether teachers consciously think about VARK or not, I think we all 'mix it up' when teaching and designing materials.
NLP? 'The balance of scientific evidence reveals NLP to be a largely discredited pseudoscience'. Source Wiki.
To be honest with you, you don't need to read any of this bull if you have experience and the right kind of experience. Nothing does my nut more than people new to a teaching context, ie the oil field, waxing lyrical about some theory, new approach or syllabus when they really have no appreciation of the politics, the trainees' needs or the specialized language which needs to be targeted and put in context.
All the BS about VARK etc is just something that confuses everything from course design to meetings which go on and on discussing nothing.
In the decades I've been teaching, I've heard it all and seen some trendy things come round a second time. I discard 99% of the theory and focus on what's needed and practical.
Of course some teachers put their needs first and because they are interested in the bull, try and make summit out of nothing. This usually has detrimental effects on the rest of the team.
The 'consultants' are largely snake oil salesmen. |
