You may be right. One of the arguments used aginst the Catalan independence movement is that in the modern world the trend is to eliminate frontiers rather than build them. Well, in my life I´ve seen lots of new countries emerge but can only think of one case of unification- Germany.

Vietnam? Well, reunification.
.

Correct. My apologies.

One more: Yemeni unification took place on May 22, 1990.

Not heard of the scandal surrounding James Savile, OBE ?

or of the total incompetence of the Chilcot Inquiry into the crimes of the Iraq War ?

hese two illustrate the levels of corruption and iniquity at the heart of the British State !

Where do you get your information about Current Affairs ?

Correct again and I retract. However, I would still maintain that in my lifetime there have been more new nations than unifications. The old USSR split into umpteen different states, as did Yugoslavia. Sudan and Pakistan became two nations and East Timor gained independence.

Not fit for purpose? It´s certainly fit for your purposes. Years of residency in such bastions of democracy as Zambia, Bulgaria and KSA and when it comes to putting up your feet, where do you go? The good old UK, of course. Why do you choose to live in a nation you clearly despise? At least the bloke in Russia who hated the UK posted from Moscow! Wink
I thought you were mired in the East End of Glasgow surrounded by neds and jakies but NO. Graham informs us that your domicile is the Isle of Bute, Rothesay to be precise. One of the most picturesque corners of the British Isles ( or Europe).
You are a cheeky auld b******. Wink

That's no way to talk about your fellow Celtic fans, old bhoy! Wink

Note that Scot47 despises Ukania, not Scotland.

I doubt that many Celtic season-ticket holders actually live in the Parkhead area. A study a few years ago (sorry no link) showed that the poorest neighbourhood in Scotland was the area around Kerrydale Street, which is the address of Celtic FC. I have no wish to denigrate the decent but unfortunate folk who live there.

Less than an hour ago they were neds and jakies. Have you been at the electric soup? Wink

I am flattered that the Shaker has been following my posts and my career with such interest. I do worry that he is spending too much time on this site and neglecting his duties as a teacher. Has he no family to spend his time with ? No Shakelets to lavish with his paternal love ? No Mrs Shake to while away his hours with ?

I will continue to battle for an independent Scottish Republic with equality for all - even delusional supporters of East End Football Clubs ! When I retired I came back to my native land which is Scotland. What is strange about that ? Would the Shake force me to swear an oath of allegiance to the House of Windsor ? My ancestors were here long before those German princelings descended up our country !

While I appreciate your concern there is no need to worry about me! Wink As for spending too much time on this site. Scotty has more than 14,000 posts and I have just crept past the 1,000 mark. Laughing
BTW I was expecting to receive congratulations from you on my 1,000th.
Enjoy life in Rothesay, Scotland´s Madeira or so they say.

After many years of hard work I am enjoying my retirement in what is more like Clacton than Madeira. I am touched that a humble Celtic supporter should be concerned at the fate of a wizened old Cowdenbeath supporter approaching his dotage.

. Sorry to hear that Rothesay has gone downhill. So Kenneth McKellar´s words are no longer true. ¨O the River Clyde, the wonderful Clyde¨ Wink
