The equivalency process VS many believe occurred, interestingly enough, a couple years after all was emeratized. It is very likely that in the past the system of checking transcripts and degrees as enough – but as foreign staff were removed and replaced with locals lacking qualifications it had allowed for several illegitimate degrees to get through the doors. I know, for certain, that there were cracker-jack box PhD holders and were unable to commence the equivalence process. And they should be removed – but they should have never been allowed in, the quality of screening fell.
It would be hard to say that is a truth, but one must speculate as the entire process makes no sense.
Money maker yes. Although it can be done for a few hundred dollars there are a couple that have spend over 6 000. You see the problem is that if you have more degrees and qualifications you need to have all of them run through the attestation and equivalency mill, so the more qualified you are the greater disadvantage you may have economically.
As I see it, a sensible institute would honour 1) you highest degree, or 2) the most relevant qualification, or 3) allow you to continue having been previously renewed. |

Key word... sensible.
Anyone who had provided their transcripts in the past shouldn't have to do anything. Qualification is already proven.
If any particular teacher has suspicious credentials, they should be called in and told such and for them to prove otherwise or depart at the end of their contract or the end of the current academic year...
The idea of making faculty that have been there for years "prove" their credentials... just because they have been adding incompetent local teachers... is beyond ludicrous.

Yes, but, as we all know, it's their country and in order to "weed out the local wasters" I'm sure that the standards must be universal. Heaven forbid that locals would be required to prove their academic qualifications and the "workers" would not have to do likewise. |

They should have had to prove their credentials BEFORE they were hired, just as the expats already did.
It remains ludicrous.

I am guessing that the HCT version 2.0 mentioned in another thread, which will apparently be revealed soon, is no other than the aforementioned break up of HCT into individual colleges, or something similar.
Is there any chance that this will be much better than version 1.0?
Absolutely not!
Is there any chance that this will be much worse than HCT version 1.0?
Definitely!
Current HCT 'travellers' can look forward to a spectacular ride off the rails and into the surrounding mire - KerPLAFF!! |

I have heard recent whispers of this breakup of the Colleges, though none of those whispers have come from within the HCT. Many Foundations teachers renewed for 1 year last year await a new contract, though no one has one in hand. Meanwhile over at ZU, the redundancies in ABP begin with more promised in the next year. ZU has told their ABP employees directly to expect the programme's end by 2019. HCT hears nothing of a plan to reduce or dismantle Foundations. |
