I know exactly what a CELTA is, and what a TESOL is, but what is special about a Trinity TESOL? Is it better or more recognizable? There are tons of places that offer TEFL and TESOL courses. Just wondered.

Trinity CertTESOL and the Cambridge CELTA courses are officially equivalent to a level 5 qualification on the national QCA educational scale in the UK. Other courses are not accredited in the same way and not of comparable standing. Other TEFL courses may be well run but they are not as well-known and not assessed as rigourously in the UK.

You might check out my initial post on this thread. The CELTA is definitely marketed outside the UK more than the Trinity CertTESOL. But it may just come down to personal preference for one course content over the other, where the course is being offered, and obviously, budget constraints.

CELTA seems to have cornered the market in Asia. Good language schools in Asia will often advertise jobs with CELTA ( or equivalent) as a requirement. For example, the last school I worked for wanted a Pass B CELTA with two years experience minimum or a CELTA Pass C with three years.

Most people I have met have the CELTA, rather than the Trinity Cert which is basically the same as mentioned above, but is very slightly inferior in terms of status. I doubt it would put you at a disadvantage unless the HR dept of the school you are applying for are utter fools.
