AmericanAmina,

I am quite surprised you found any green areas between Madinah and Mada-in Saleh... it's pretty desert! (We drove through that way twice to visit Jordan by car). However, if you go further up north to Tabuk, then yes you will find a lot of green areas.

I'm googling images, and Buraydah and Tabuk both look like they have some greenery. Has anybody worked at the University of Tabuk or Fahad Bin Sultan University or at Qassim University in Buraydah?

The Arab definition of green is a touch loose. I do remember being sent somewhere apparently green and it was Sakaka which is mostly red desert.

It can indeed be quite depressing to not see green trees, or lakes surrounded by greenery if you come from a more "verdant" country. I suppose like everything else you have to offset that against the higher tax free salary, and if it is worth it to the individual teacher at the time?

The desert is such a spectacular thing to behold anyhow. Jubail was quite "green" but by far my favorite bits was the endless sand between Jubail and Dammam. Going for runs in the desert was also cool. Genuinely miss it.

Well back to the original poster. I guess you basically have the qualifications they ask for anyways since you have an extensive experience in education. I guess it all comes down to experience combined with a desirable nationality. In other words, yes there are plenty of jobs but only for a select group that has both aspects they desire.

Additionally, the fact that there is a need or a market doesn't mean that it's going to be fulfilled. I've been to a lot of countries (including my own) that have what we call "ghost vacancies" basically the ads are out there but the company is not actually taking any steps towards developing the whole selection and hiring process, I know it sounds stupid or even insane but I've seen it with my own eyes. I'm not implying that this is the truth for Saudi since I'm not there. All I can see from my place is a lot of job postings on the internet that last months on a website and ask for rather high qualifications and in many cases very specific experience paired with a very limited number of nationalities. Must be difficult in many cases to actually find someone who fulfills such requirements and is also willing to relocate to Qassim for example.

This poster knows their onions re: the KSA.

I have had a bad experience with one such "recruiter", which I suspect is nothing more than an organized data mining scam outfit, that employs filipinos to email you back....but no job ever turns up!

This has my radar up and blinking. QEHC sent me an email requesting CV and I kinda suspect that they are checking to see if anyone is dumb enough to wanna work for them.
I work at Qassim and the direct hires had their housing allowances cut. No more Big King Daddy paying your rent. Meanwhile, I noticed Mohammed the Reckless went out to buy a huge yacht from a Russian. It seems belt-tightening only applies to the little people.
