If China isn't the centre of EFL these days, then where is? |
A very good question indeed!
But given that salaries in China have remained static for donkeys years, and with a rising living costs and increased hostility and xenophobia from the locals, it (to me, at least) has lost a lot of appeal If there are those who are happy there, then more power due them, each to their own eh? |
There's a lot of demand for English in China and side work, etc. Hell, education in general. They just eat it up! But China itself has a long way to go though. So unless you like torturing yourself, I would only suggest possibly coming for a short visit if you must. |

what you earn you spend, so chump change of 8,500 SAR might be ok for someESL world, not anymore.[/quote][/b]
The fact is that anyone who takes an 8500 SAR a month job here is ludicrous. There is no valid reason to take something so low. That is 2300 US dollars a month. That is a frigging joke! Also, people probably spend anywhere from 700 to 1200 on basic necessities so you are saving less then 2 grand.
Anyone who is accepting a paltry salary of 8500 a month has to get their head examined.
I know for a fact that several posters on this forum are making that and they should be ashamed of themselves to accept something so low. There are better options out there and they shouldn't be selling themselves short.
To each their own and I hope they can make ends meet with that salary. Just remember that there are better paying jobs and better companies then that. |

Yes to each their OWN, Herr Grohl to each their own, you are quite right. For me with only a degree, the KSA can pay better. |

Perhaps. But simply talking about what you think you're worth won't get you anywhere and it's now been several months since you first inquired on this forum about working via a biz visit visa. Start proactively contacting recruiters to ask if that's even a possibility. Otherwise, you're spinning your wheels. |

It's not necessarily the first job in KSA that counts, but the jobs you get after that, that might be important. That's where you can step up.
When I think of some of the people who were at my first place, all with just a BA.
One went on to BAE.
Another to Aramco(contractor)
Another to a U.S.military contractor.
Two of those BAs were unrelated.
But what did count was experience, and time spent in KSA, and the ability to network in KSA. |

I would avoid QEHC at all costs. They are clearly prying on the vulnerable and this ad is proof of that. Consequently, they feel that they can treat their staff/teachers with complete disregard.
However, everyone's situation and circumstances are different. As I just mentioned in another thread, 8 or 9K SAR is enough for a bachelor or even a family in KSA. It's better than zero or little income. |

The problem is you gotta go to KSA to get that measly sum. |

Fair point, but, the flight is paid for and it is a much shorter flight time than to China, at least from Europe. That is maybe one reason it appeals to some. Each to their own on this one! |

After all of the warnings on these threads and forums, people are aware of the crappy and pay and conditions at QEHC. They shouldn't come on this site and cry and complain about how terrible it is.
You know up front that they are a shady company, pay and treat their staff poorly. It still amazes me that posters here justify it by saying 8500 is worth it.
I just get tired of threads like these popping up like weeds after warning after warning.
The definition of insanity is doing the same action every time but expecting a different result.
To each their own and if people are still going to work for this company, good luck to you. However, I don't want to see crocodile tears after things go wrong. |

Fair enough, but I don't think sharing bad experiences is inherently wrong, sharing is caring, at least that is just me! Each to their own body!!!!! |

Salary is equivalent of 850 Omani rials a month?!! Whatever happened to 'Saudi pays more than Oman'? Even the lowest paying recruitment agency is offering 1000 Omani rial for the Ministry CAS Colleges there. Why would anybody with the quals + experience settle for this? |

It would seem the good old days of sowdy paying more, have long gone, along with the arrogance that accompanied those who had the good packages/salaries. Economic crisis or oil price, has probably took it's toll also. Also, another reason is Oman does not offer the business or work visit visa route, and requires a lot of authentication of documents now, similar to getting the saudi work visa/iqama, so perhaps many prefer sowdy for that reason, despite the lower pay? |
