Thanks guys

Nope, possibly, but also probably at your own expense, and possibly, but not for that amount.

The only costs I've ever had reimbursed were the cost of the medical here in China. my uni insists I have it every two years, and they pay me back.
The costs of the resident permit and work permit are paid by the school, but the costs of the Z visa to get you in country I have never been reimbursed for, nor have I seen a contract where those costs are reimbursed. Others may have different information. If you're staying on campus or in accommodation provided by the school, then you should be going straight there from the airport, if you plan on renting, maybe the school will pay you to stay in a hotel for a few days until you find a place, but don't bet on it, and prepare yourself for a hotel room that is more like a bunk in a homeless hostel.

My experience here, and the anecdotal evidence that this board is awash with, says that your likely to be nickel an dimed to death. Chinese employers, whether public schools, universities or agencies do not like spending money on foreigners, and will do everything possible to avoid it. You may of course have a totally different experience, but it's worth lowering your expectations until they barely skim the ground, that way you might be pleasantly surprised.

The 'killer' for me with off-campus accommodation is what do you do on split shift days?
8am to 10 and then 2 to 4pm.
25 hours is too many if it's all contact time.

It's a public middle school. Why would there be a split shift? Or are you talking about the lunch break?

I agree that the 25 hours seems high. I thought public schools max out at 18 or so. But if it's an experimental school, they might have a higher max.

Split shift.
Are you going to be teaching each hour the school is in session?
If total class time is 35 hrs/week you are going to have 10 hours off duty which may lead to the scenario I mention above.
I think for dodgy pay and conditions like you describe you better off going to a tertiary (max 20 but likely 16 hours) live on campus etc.

Some schools (if you re-sign) will pay you for the Summer months. This is often seen as your contract completion bonus.
They are really cutting back on aifare too. I would ask for 8k.
On 13k you will come out with a little over 12k after tax. Say 3-4k (if you are lucky) for a decent one bedroom place. Approx 8k to live on is fine but don't expect to save much I would say.

It depends upon your schedule. If you aren't working every morning hour and then every afternoon hour (less lunch time), you'll have to go somewhere during your off hours if you have no office. That means going to the library (if you are allowed to use it or if it isn't locked at lunch time) or getting back on the bus and going back to your apartment which may not be practical.
