Some-one should tip off a NC newspaper. That'll get some action. |
I may be headed to Raleigh next month perhaps a stop by the School of Education at NCSU would be in order |

to add water to the mill, i've got a friend who got an offer from this school not too long ago. From what we had read here we were expecting it to be kind of a rip off so we brought the contract to a lawyer we know. We asked about overtime, or whether there was any shady/illegal clause...Well, he found nothing wrong with it. the contract we got was bilingual and fairly long though compared to other schools.
So it seems these guys have stepped up their game somehow. the offer was OK I guess, 2 years contract, 23k before tax for roughly 20h of teaching/week. He also had the half paid vacation but they gave him 3 roundtrip tickets. He eventually turned them down because he had to watch the kids over at night (it seems they're like a residential school). What we learned also is that this is not owned in any way by NCSU. US newspapers aint gonna do absolutely zilch no matter what you tell them. NCSU just helps with academic matters and curriculum design. our 2 cents peps |

interesting, but honorary principal sounds like when someone's retired and doesn't have any power left; for the sake of keeping up appearances or not losing face, as Chinese say ah ah
I heard the Chinese government started to deal more seriously with labour rights violations recently, that's maybe why they changed it. That comment was posted almost a year ago actually.
At any rate the lawyer found nothing that was a violation of labour laws in the one they sent us about a month ago. Whatever they did it for, it's a good thing they did it. |

Hello
I am a chemistry teacher.
They asked for 3 interviews.
I received a very low offer (19k per months) - 50 plus hours per week, half pay during vacation and so on.
I replied asking to discuss about it.
I still wait an e-mail from them
Just disappeared.
Avoidable

I assume marking is additional?

I've had a few interviews for similar high schools in Nanjing who are linked with Australian and American universities. I was offered a job with all of them except one that wanted me to make a demo video lesson which I didn't want to do.
The main concern for me about these schools is the lack of direction for both me and for the students. If there is no gaokao then I worry. It's possible that these kids have come from a normal primary and middle school and then suddenly it's like a party atmosphere in a high school without gaokao.
The money offered is good. One school offered 16,000 after tax for an eleven month contract for 10 teaching hours (which they wouldn't convert to teaching periods) plus 'activities' plus 'training lessons' and I'd have to teach IELTS in the summer. It was very difficult getting them to clarify things in the contract and when I rang the school whoever answered didn't know the people who I hasd been dealing with. It turned out they were using an outside travel agency who didn't seem to know much about the documents required for me to work in the school. Communication was not easy because they had to go back to confirm with someone at the school for every question I asked and they often confused what I was actually asking. I gave up on it. |
