It is possible to do a visa in a day. As I understand it the days that count towards your 183 days are those spent in the country inclusive of the dates stamped in your passport.

Lets say you go off to Hong Kong for the day on a visa run. Lets say you leave on August 28th and also return on August 28th. Technically I believe (somebody correct me if I'm wrong) but this day should still count towards your 183 days. Thus no days have been lost.

It might just work.

Thanks. I've just emailed Interlink to see what they can do about getting me a cheap return flight to HK (they're advertising return flights to HK for a ridiculous $6,200 NT on their website, so I live in hope). Smile

Well here's what they've quoted me:

Quote:
Dragon Air - NT$ 8,800 including tax (same day return)

KA 481 TPE - HKG 1510 1645
KA 488 HKG - TPE 2145 2325

Not a bad price given that it includes taxes, and it's a same day return which gives me time in the middle to apply for a 60 day visa if I feel like it.

I think I'll check this one out.

I think you will need to be on the first plane out of Taipei in the morning. That flight gets you there about the time the office closes.

I think you need to book the first flight out and the last flight back.

Or did I miss something? Can you get a visa at the airport now? Either way go early.

I've been told that you can get a visa at the airport for about $1,000 NT. But even if I only get back in with the standard 30 day visa, that will be enough time for my ARC to finish being processed.

Alternatively (and even more cheaply), I could just take the visa run cruise recommended by Pop-Fly.

Details from Tealit:

Quote:
2 days / 1 night
sails: Saturday 3/27
Yonaguni Island Leisure Cruise
boarding: 5:00pm-6:30pm
departure: 8:00pm
return: 3:00pm Sunday 3/28

2-Person rooms, Per person cost
(a) NT$4900 / person (4400+500 tax), two porthole windows

No days lost here either.

Ah, I've just found that the 2 day/1 night cruise has been discontinued, worse luck. Looks like it might be HK after all.

I stand corrected. I would check to make sure the office is open all the same.

Good idea. Although I might just enter with the 'visa free' 30 days thing. That should be plenty of time for my paperwork to be settled.
