I agree with the posts regarding looking at university boards (Complutense, Autonoma, Comillas, etc). Many university students prefer to have English speaking roommates which is fine if your level of Spanish is quite good. A lot of my classmates from my TEFL course found it too one sided as the Spanish people love to talk and the famous"intercambio" became an unpaid English class.

So these flats advertised on those university boards are great but make sure you are prepared to speak English all the time, at work teaching to your Spanish students and at home speaking to your Spanish flatmates! I also used the "intercambio" and I was fine, I was able to practice my Spanish as much as my Spanish friend was able to practice her English, it was a fair share.

But dont get me wrong , those boards are great sources of flats but its always nice to know what you might get as an additional bonus! Laughing

I'm new to Madrid - taking the November EBC course - getting there about a week before classes start. I have my first month's housing all set, and am psyched to learn about a new city. But since I don't know the city well, I was hoping those hip to Madrid could recommend shady, non-centric, dull, or really expensive areas/neighborhoods to avoid. Not necessarily to avoid totally, but to just skip should I see apartment vacancies listed within them. I hear EBC's neigborhood is kinda posh and expensive -- this true?

Thanks!
