As I had expected...although I think there is perhaps too much respect devoted to a masters degree.

Thanks for your response.

How would you feel if you found out your university professor or tutor back home didnt have a higher degree or a PhD in his topic, while you are studying for a BA degree? wouldnt you feel cheated?

it is customary in most countries for the teacher to have at least one degree higher than the students that they are teaching, except PhDs.

I will also add that the competition for places is extremely tough- I have heard of college teaching jobs that have over one hundred applicants. Universities can pick and choose and there is no need for them to consider someone with a just BA, when they have fifty guys (mostly guys) with a higher degree and publications.

I'm not suggesting that a Master's degree is not worth anything. If someone has the same qualifications as I have plus he has a relevant masters degree, then he is definitely more qualified than me...however i've seen many masters programs and I haven't always been impressed by them. It depends a lot on the school and if it was a research based or a course based masters.
I'm not holding a grudge at all, nor am I trying to be overly defensive, I'm just wondering how much more qualified someone with a masters degree is over someone with two bachelors IF the masters degree is in a field unrelated to teaching (I'm only talking about teaching jobs here).
I think that employers have become so accustomed to people having bachelor degrees and so, without even thinking, they just brush them off now as being nothing special.
