Thanks for the suggetion Mark O, but actually I never had any problem, logistically sapeaking, with landing and finding my way myself. I've been doing it all my life. I just felt a bit neglected by the school, that's all.

Actually I am now in HK, and in retrospect it would have been a good to have someone here to meet me. I got badly ripped off by a cab driver, and lost 100 HK bucks in a phone card machine that wouldn't give me a card, all within five minutes of getting into town. But other than that, no problems...

I fail to believe that. I think, instead, you simply failed to calculate for the luggage fee. That is a (very) serious crime here and no taxi drivers would dare risk losing their licence.

That's an interesting way of saying you don't believe it. So how much is the luggage fee usually?

Tony(I mean Ludwig/Laurent) has been indocrinated with PRC garbage his whole life. Nothing can go wrong in China....it must be the foreigners fault.

So he believes. Help him. It's like the Manchurian Candidate with him everyday.

I do not recall off hand, though it is clearly noted in the back of the taxi.

Good to see that you at least admit, finally in public, that you are but a troll.

Actually, Hong Kong is radically different to the PRC, as anyone who has actually been to this part of Asia well knows.

This plot thickens.....

Is Tony a moderator? He seems to know all that I type. Even if it isn't about him.

Strange, that.

I wont respond to you anymore, my man. You have my word as a Hong Kong resident Wink Troll away at others.

Do you actually have anything constructive to add to this thread, 'blackguy most certainly not in Asia'? Have you ever been a NET? Of course not. Have you ever even been to HK? I doubt it. Have you ever even left the US before? Unlikely.

It seems to me as if you are suffering from paranoid delusions.

How's that for stereotypes?

His sig says he's in Canada, his posts suggest that he's probably from Alberta, but that's just a guess.

No, Zulu and Icelandic. Of course it is in English; this is an ex-British colony and is a bilingual state!

Despite your skepticism Ludwig, the cab driver took me for a ride, so to speak. I knew I was in the general area of the hotel I was going to stay at, but had three bags, and there were no street signs anywhere to be seen. So I hailed a cab, and told him the address, saying it was probably very close. He then drove me around the block, up and a bit, did a full circle and put me perhaps 30 metres up the street from where I had gotten in the cab. We had even driven right passed my hotel initially. He obviosuly thought I was stupid, and with my baggage he gussed I knew sh.t about HK. Anyway, I'm not THAT stupid. I paid 40 HK bucks when I could have walked the 30 meters to the front door of the hotel. Not a huge fee, but just bad ethics on behalf of the driver.

30 metres would have been $15, actually. A $40 taxi fare used to take me from my old flat at Hung Hom Harbour Front to the airport express at Kowloon station (a 15-minute ride). In short, 'so to speak', considerably further than this putative 30 metres you mention. From where, pray tell, is this figure plucked?

In addition, did you take the one-way system and pick-up and drop-off laws into account?

Defending an HK cab driver is like defending a used car salesman when he rips you off.

Unregulated cabbies everywhere are in the job for the cash, and if you are foreign, they may take the chance and ....rip you off. How hard is this idea?

You were ripped off, my friend. Deal with it. Don't let others blow smoke up your chimney about it. HK is like New York and other big cities. They'll take you for a ride if they can get away with it.

Give it up. Rolling Eyes

I've plowed enough HK girls in Toronto, to not have a need to go there, or Taiwan. Why buy the cow?

They tell me that its crowded and polluted, but they just like Canada better, so I don't buy the 'horrible Hong Kong' story too much. Still, mainland chinese girls are harder to come by in Toronto, so I'll go there and 'explore' Very Happy

Because, b-n-a, a 'cow' - as you so elegantly put it - is more than just milk alone. However, needless to say that Ludwig won't miss your absence, and nor, presumably, will the HK ladies if you seriously believe what you've written above!
