Language isn't really a problem. I picked up alot of Cantonese when I worked in a mainstream school, it was neccessary because I was having to instruct not only my international class, but the local ones as well...learned really quickly. As for getting around, the majority of people speak English and if they dont you just ask someone else... if you speak Cantonese they think your speaking English and wont listen..haha. I am also interested in NGO work and am considering India right now. I am here for financial gain... but the hope was to move to a developing country and do some paid work there (not teaching). I would love to do my masters in international development, but i haven't got the background to apply yet... I may need to keep it in the education/social work feild. Teaching is fullfilling....its what you make of it I guess. I enjoy it, but the environment of a Chinese school isn't easy and alot of people dont like it. If you havent taught in your home country than you wouldnt know the difference. I have been here 3 years and its no problem for me! |
