Oh? Which countries are those? |
For a starter, most of SE Asia. I suspect that teaching English without the benefit of a university's magical piece of paper is commonplace in other regions of the globe as well - but I'll leave that for others to claim. |

Don't barge into this forum and ask for advice if you don't want to deal with legitimate reactions to your UNCONSCIOUS behavior. Some folks here are just as unconscious as you are, but you cannot expect to disparage a culture and have everyone let you get by with it. |
Sorry, but it needs to be said.
Moonraven, you are a miserable old bag. Roll over and die.
Antaraaaa is just the latest in a neverending stream of people whom you chose to attack as a way to prove your great cultural sensitivity.
You are just a sorry old gringa playing at being an indio, and you do no service to either your true race or your adopted one. |

Keep whining, Mikey Boy. It's the only thing you know how to do.
I was an "indio" long before you existed, and I will be going strong long after you have turned up your sorry toes.
In the words of the immortal "Fonz", sit on it and twirl. |

I've been watching this board, and the general job board, for some time now. I am someone who hates anything racist. I love Mexico, and have lived in Mexico City. I see some strangely racist arguments made on this board.
I believe that being born of one race does not make you any different than someone born of another in any essential way, and certainly not in terms of abilities, intellect and rights.
So, I find no moral high ground for someone who may have been born Native American. To propose this is a form of racist exoticism. (And, as a woman, I find it eqully objectionable to claim an essentialist moral highground based on sex/gender).
One of the best things about Mexico today is its deeply mestizo ancestry. A person should not claim any stronger alliance with Mexicans because they are Native American than if they are European American. We are all, in the Americas, immigrants from some other place, at some period of time.
As for teaching English without degrees, that is a question anywhere. But many places employ people without degrees, and many people without degrees, but with 20 plus years speaking their mother tongues, make good teachers. It seems to me to be inconsistent with egalitarian principles to demand an elite education from someone to qualify them to teach what they know as well as their mother tongue- I happily learn Spanish from anyone willing to teach me. I am not arrogant enough to demand a university degree.
I hate to see critical mean spiritedness on Dave's. And I don't care what color or gender the person is that is being mean-spirited. We are all equal in that regard, too, all too equally inclined to be arrogant. |

ERmmmm...
I'm actually really interested in the answer to the original post. Yes, I have a degree, and have seen some schools while in Chihuahua city, but what is the employment scene really like?
Continually bereft as to why every single post on this forum seems to turn into some argument that has no relevance to the actual question.
Have a good day,
Lozwich. |

Too much time being a saint and "saving" Mexicans from progress makes you infalible, LOL
