| install SP2 if u are using win xp. its got a good firewall. or install a firewall called zone alarm. try using norton antivirus 2005. its got an adware and spyware remover too. |

For the "belt-and-suspenders" crowd, may I also recommend "Spybot"? Picks up some spyware that adaware doesn't. (And adaware does the same for spybot). Combine these with ZoneAlarm (free version), Norton and the SP2 download, and you're pretty secure...unles you fail to update the programs regularly.
Some fairly decent online virus scans can be found via a google entry of "virus scan free".
For what it's worth, since we know that a lot of spam is infected, I've found that whilst I get enormous amounts of spam with hotmail and yahoo, I have not seen one spam message on gmail since I got it two months ago. Anyone know how they manage this? Nice little email system if you don't mind google filing away all your emails for some future FBI fishing expedition. |
