As mentioned before, alot of people will be gone. I have been living here for 3 years and have never been here for Christmas or New Year's. I will be back here for NY this year, but plan on staying in....only because I am tired of the same old scene...but Hong Kong has a great night life and I'm sure there will be alot going on. Check out www.asiaxpat.com.hk and check out what parties are on. It is a city of a gazillion people, so you are bound to find something good going on. Fireworks should be good. And everyone can speak English and you will see alot of foreign folk around. Have fun.

There are some nice restaurants in Stanley, such as The Boathouse. Absolutely craved decent Western food whilst in HK. There's a nice Vietnamese place, which is sort of next door, although forgotten name of it.

The Verandah at Repulse Bay is superb, but you may have to book. Ask your hotel reception to help you. Also, get them to write the hotel's address in Chinese for you, in case you need to get a taxi back.

Temple Street market is great for dodgy stuff.

I loved the Wanch in Wan Chai, which is a sleazy spit and sawdust kind of place. Particularly good on Saturday nights, if you like live music. As the others have said, Lan Kwai Fong is really THE place to party. I like the restaurants there, but I found it a little too 'cattle market' for my liking and at times, it smacked off 'school disco'.

The best thing about 'clubbing' in HK, is that it doesn't matter how old you are, you get all sorts.

I think we can all say that we've been bar-top dancing at Carnegie's!
