But we forgot to tell people the greatest thing about Machida.....DON QUIJOTE !!!!! |
Don Quixote is not limited to Machida. It's a chain store located all over Japan. There are as many Don Quixote stores as there are Loft or Gap.
I love that Japanese people don't know the meaning of Don Quixote (at least most of the people I meet). I want to meet the person who came up with the name for the store and just ask them, "Why?" |
Hey Nismo,
Yeah I know they are all over the place and not unique to Machida but I was struggling to find something positive about Machida for the original poster
haha and yes I also find it funny that most people have no idea what Don Quijote means.
But then again, they have stores with names like "Human Woman" so why not Don Quijote |

"Hi, I just got the news from GEOS, I am going to Machida, Tamagawa Gakuenmae, Tokyo, anybody been there or know about it? I'm going in January too, I assume it's kinda cold. Hey I'm from Southern California, everything seems cold to me. "
Congrats! I've only been in Japan a short time, but I know the area you'll be teaching in, and I wish you luck. So far my experience has been very positive. A word of caution though: I was told that Tamagawagakuenmae has had a rash (2) of teachers fired for hitting on students. So, if you're a forward guy (or an agressive girl), I recommend you not try this tactic with your students. Unless, as one person put it for me, you look like Tom Cruise and everything works out - then it's ok Just remember that their real concern at the school (and in any business) is their bottom line, so just don't do things to jeapordize their cashflow.
As for Machida, it's a nice size and has all the amenities you should need. If not, Yokohama is just a hop and a skip away, and is one of the nicer areas I've visited, with plenty to do. So, once again, good luck. |
