That mut have made life a little tense at time in your household.
What could be so bad a to provoke a lifetime of ignoring a parent? |

I can't speak for BethMac's particular situation, but in my own, my mother is seriously mentally ill, and I haven't spoken to her in years because she is so manipulative. It's not my choice not to have a relationship with a parent, but I do it for my own survival. To do so would be unhealthy for me. My husband chooses not to have anything to do with his parents for different reasons: they were violently abusive toward him when he was a child. Other situations could be a parent who is in jail.
My hat goes off to those who are from happy Leave it to Beaver families, but unfortunately, not all families are like that and sometimes hard choices have to be made. |

Yes, they are the kind of actions which could lead to it, but the op was about not giving a Chritmas present and BethMac said her brother stopped talking to his mother

| Well guty, what I meant was that it was an event that completely ruined Christmas for everyone in the family and that put an end to an already strained relationship (b/w my mother and brother). I won't go into details because I don't feel the need to share all on a public website. Suffice to say that I can see this man's actions coming back to bite him in the @ss in the form of resentful adult children. I see a nursing home in his future. |
